Hello, my name is Ileana Acosta and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and a Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC).
The path to wellness is different for every person, which is why upon admission, I conduct a comprehensive clinical assessment of each client and tailor a treatment plan that meets their unique needs, whether it’s to address challenges with anxiety, depression, or addiction, I am here to help. Understanding a client’s history of substance use, family history, physical and mental health helps me design a person-centered treatment plan that accounts for all aspects of a client’s health and well-being. In addition to providing individual therapy (i.e. weekly, monthly), I also provide case management, including connecting my clients to psychiatric and medical services, if needed.
I received my Bachelor’s degree from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in Forensic Psychology, and my Master’s degree from NYU – (School of Culture, Education and Human Development) in Counseling for Mental Health and Wellness. I have over 12 years’ experience treating co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders using a range of evidenced based therapeutic modalities. I am bi-lingual speaking English and fluent in Spanish.
My favorite statement is: “just when the caterpillar thought the world was over, it became a butterfly.” To me this phenomenon is the essence of hope and faith. In therapy, I aim to encourage clients to realize that no matter the circumstance, there is always hope. I am looking forward to meeting and working with you!
